Heathrow Airport Parking Advice – Icelandic Volcanic Eruption

Apr 23, 02:19 PM

In unprecedented scenes during the last week, the skies over the UK have been free of aircraft. People going to and from holidays and business trips abroad have been stranded, either here in the UK or in a foreign country. Thanks to the volcanic eruption in Iceland many people have had untold problems trying to get home or go out on holiday.

Heathrow is normally a bustling airport but it hasn’t looked that way in recent days. Although the airspace over the UK is now returning to normal there have been many after effects that are still being felt. One of these involves airport parking for those who have left their car at Heathrow recently. And of course anyone who has been delayed in leaving the UK due to the cancellation of flights will also have been affected.

There are two situations which may affect you here. You may have been abroad and overstayed your allotted car parking time due to not having returned to Heathrow Airport when you thought you would. In this situation take a look at the website of the parking company you are with if you can. Many of them have issued reports and updates regarding this situation for you to easily access; most have a link on the home page you can go through.

It is also advisable to read this information if you were meant to be travelling from Heathrow Airport and you have been delayed in leaving. This could mean your parking is not required for the original time slot. In this case you should read the information on the website of the Heathrow parking company you booked with, and go from there. It is likely you would have to contact them to rebook in this case, or alter your original booking. Ask about any charges for this, although many companies are not doing so.

This also holds true for people who have been late in returning to Heathrow to pick up their cars. Most car parking companies across the UK are not charging customers any more money for the additional days they are parked for. Always check with your own parking company at Heathrow to make sure this does apply to them however; the odd company is making additional charges. It also doesn’t appear that travel insurance will cover this type of eventuality, so always find out what you can for your own situation.
